On May 29, 2018, the families of Mario Woods and Luis Góngora Pat held a joint press conference to protest D.A. Gascón’s decision to not press charges against the officers who killed their loved ones. José Góngora Pat brother of Luis Góngora Pat delivered the following words at the Hall of Justice, 850 Bryant, San Francisco:

(ENGLISH TRANSLATION)

I speak to you today with a broken heart. I love my brother Luis, today and always! And I’m still looking for justice for Luis!

Gascón has the power to charge the two policemen who killed my brother, but he decided to cover up for those murderous cops. His decision was very cowardly. Mr. Gascón never gave us the respect we deserve as the family of a victim of the police.

To the families who have suffered the same sorrow, I ask you: What can we do together so that killer cops go to jail? My struggle is against the injustice we share.

I understand the pain of Mrs. Woods and all of these other families here present. I know that together we will find the way to justice for our beloved relatives!

Les hablo hoy con el corazón partido. ¡Yo amo a mi hermano Luis, hoy y siempre! ¡Y sigo buscando justicia para Luis!

Gascón tiene el poder de ponerle cargos a los dos policías que mataron a mi hermano, pero decidió encubrir a esos policías asesinos. Fue muy cobarde su decisión. El señor Gascón jamás nos dio el respeto que merecemos como familia de una víctima de la policía.

A las familias que han sufrido la misma pena, les pregunto: ¿Qué podemos hacer juntos para que la policía que mata se vaya a la cárcel?  Mi lucha es contra la injusticia que compartimos. Yo entiendo el dolor de la Sra. Woods y todas estas otras familias aquí presentes. ¡Yo sé que juntos vamos a encontrar el camino a la justicia para nuestros queridos familiares!
